From Software Engineer to Marketing Leader : The OOIVU Journey

“One skill is never enough – life doesn’t let you stay in one lane.”

Article content

You know… people always say, “Be a software engineer. IT field is enough.” But real talk? In this world, “enough” is never enough. I learned that the hard way – and the beautiful way.

I started my path as a software engineer, punching code like everyone else. But somewhere along the way, life tapped me on the shoulder and whispered, “If you try marketing and sales, The world is wider than your IDE.”

So I stepped in.

Not because I had the confidence. But because I had the fire.

And that fire brought me to Innovay, where my life took a plot twist I didn’t expect. After pushing the OOIVU product with the team and seeing it take off, I found myself moving from “software guy” to Marketing Lead, and eventually… Chief Marketing Officer. Yeah, even I had a “wait… me? CMO?!” moment. But that’s how life rewards you when you stop sitting in one skill.

💼 When HABB met Innovay – everything changed.

Our collaboration opened the door to a massive mission: Promote OOIVU – a full-fledged hotel management SaaS product.

This wasn’t just a software rollout. It became a full-power journey.

🌐 Phase 1 – Branding Like We Meant It

We gave OOIVU a proper identity:

  • Clean social media presence
  • Sharp website
  • SEO that actually worked
  • Content that felt alive

And boom. First-stage hotel clients started coming in.

🚗 Phase 2 – Hitting the Road (literally)

Online wasn’t enough. So we took it to the streets like old-school marketers.

We visited hotels across:

  • Jaffna

  • Mannar

  • Mullaitivu

  • Kilinochchi

And even reached clients in the Central and Eastern provinces.

We sat with management teams, watched how they handled bookings, understood their struggles, their peak seasons, their actual bottlenecks. No assumptions. Pure field research.

🎓 A word to every young hustler reading this…

Don’t chain yourself to one skill. The world doesn’t move in straight lines anymore.

Be the engineer who can sell. Be the marketer who understands tech. Be the creative who understands business. Be the person who refuses to stay in one box.

Because life rewards the ones who explore.

Stay curious. Stay restless. And never let anyone tell you “this one skill is enough.”
